The Dog That Carries The Bone Has The Fleas!

The salon environment is a special place. We try to keep an atmosphere of positive energy, fun and happiness for our clients as well as ourselves. We have to be aware of all elements that may get in the way of this harmonious setting.

 Some people have messy personalities.

These are the people that like to perpetuate chaos for their own amusement! You know the type; they like to bring you juicy gossip about someone else!

These are the folks who “Throw the rock and hide their hand!” It takes two people to have a conversation but these people NEVER tell you what THEY said, only what the other person said!

These people never have anything positive to say about anything or anybody. I had a coworker who was recently fired due to this issue. She was quite skilled in her debauchery! She successfully removed the last 3 nail techs from our salon in the last 4 years! Her strategy was to isolate and conquer! She would IMMEDIATELY befriend the new employee. The first step is to find out all about the new hire’s personal business. The next step is for him or her to tell you about their personal business. This is to make you feel comfortable so you will drop your defenses and share more than you normally would. The “dog” then immediately tells the rest of the shop and the clients who will listen, all the juicy information “The Bone”. The “dog” will continue to gather ammunition waiting for the right time to strike! The “dog” is very friendly and she or he makes you feel like you are BFF’s.

You dont even realize they brought fleas with them until it’s too late, you are ITCHING! If one is not careful the “dog” will run off great techs and awesome clients with those FLEAS!!!

The clients will never tell you what the “dog” has said in the past because they “Don’t want to start any trouble!” It all comes out in the wash! It never fails, once a person is gone from the environment it all comes to light.

Working in the service industry we come across many different personalities. We have to deal with the personalities of our co-workers on a daily basis. It is vital to the success of the salon to protect the environment for us and our clients. This industry has given me a PHD in people and a minor in psychology! I have learned how to operate in any environment and adapt to many situations.

I can help you avoid those fleas by following a few simple rules.

1) Never fall for the gossip, just don't engage in the conversation. The “dog” will move on to another target if you don’t listen.
2)Never talk about clients in front of other clients. They will think you would do the same thing to them.

All in all, I still LOVE WHAT I DO!!! Remember when someone is always bringing a “bone” they are usually carrying FLEAS!!!
