FINDING & CHARGING YOUR WORTH!

There are a lot of things that get in the way of
 charging what your worth!

But First, You have to be worthy and feel worthy.

To do that...you MUST find your worth!!!

Most times, finding that has nothing to do with business but with the cobwebs of childhood messages, conditioning and trauma.

The following video is a small part of how I came out of feeling "unworthy" when it comes to my nail services.

Life Rolls On...

There's a quote I love by English writer, Mary Ann Evans that reads:

"It's never too late to be what you might have been."
(this is true)

Me, working on my teacher's nails.

Hello! I'm Jazmin.

The earliest memory I have of wanting to learn how to do nails was at 10 years old. However, my journey to becoming a Nail Tech started in '97. I enrolled at a local vocational school but; due to my inability to meet the school's pedicure requirement, I saw no other choice and quit half way through the course. Being paraplegic, working with client's feet was something I knew would not be comfortable for me to do. As a result of my decision, I was left feeling disappointed & most of all discouraged.

"My dream is over!" (or so I thought)

Fifteen years had passed; since my first try at becoming a licensed professional but...

it was a conversation with a nail tech that marked the beginning of my career...

One afternoon, as I was having my nails worked on...I couldn't help but share my love of the profession (as well as my failed attempt). Just before the service was over, she picked up her phone and called a friend (director of admissions at a beauty academy). Upon hearing about my bitter experience, the director asked to speak with me. Excited to help, she assured me that they would accommodate my special needs in any way possible. A week later, I was taking a tour of the campus and on February 21, 2012

...I officially became a beauty school student!

That's me, doing my first facial!

Today, it’s with a great sense of pride and accomplishment that I can finally say:

“I am doing what I love…Nails!

Okay, now that we are old friends
lets talk about VBP!

When I first heard about the VBP 90 Day Challenge I was all in, David and Naja have real life experience in this nail world and they complement each other so well.

David supported me on on taking my business seriously and getting the business end clear so I could focus on what my customers want and stop beating myself up about the small stuff. We brainstormed fun Ideas for my customers and I was able to raise my prices and do so with confidence. I am at the top of price point in my area, so David and I came up with a plan to create this bling bar (photo below) to be able to add more value to my services by up selling customers with bling. That way my drawers and drawers of SPARKLY THINGS, that no one ever saw, now became a conversation starter ending in clients asking for higher ticket services.

David has real integrity I can be honest with the state of my business with him because he is not there to be impressed by me he is there to help me see though my own hang-ups and get to the next level.

Naja and Me when she came out to Utah and I got to do her Nails

Naja’s brings so much fun and life to the party, I love her creativity and business point of view. Naja’s support and encouragement means the world to me as, she has done so much in her career and still is so real and easy to relate to because she has been in my shoes and knows the struggle and the journey to success.

When Naja and David shared their vision with me about this blog I just knew this was something I wanted to be a part of. I feel it’s going to be something that makes the much needed difference for so many peoples’ businesses and just that shot of self confidence the Beauty Industry needs.

I’m thrilled to be the “Blog Master” or Project Leader for The VBP Beauty Blog.

Eponychium VS Cuticle

KLUCH NEWS - News that’s on time with information for you to grab….

The Great Debate Convo
What is the EPONYCHIUM & What is CUTICLE?

So, every nail tech has had this conversation or maybe even argued over exactly what is the eponychium and what is the cuticle. There is a great difference in both of these tissues. EPONYCHIUM is LIVING SKIN at the base of the nail plate. CUTICLE is DEAD TISSUE adhered to the nail plate. Those are the basic definitions.

So no matter what WE as nail techs thought, these are not the same definitions...they read differently. So now that we have established that, here are some ways I used to tell the difference when I was in school when it came to using cuticle nippers because; I am a very scary nail tech (lol). I don't want to hurt you or make you bleed. So if it is dead tissue or cuticle it may adhere to the nail plate but come up easy, if it is translucent or even if it is just sticking up. Now when it comes to nipping a general rule used is to only nip what is standing up and screaming heeeyyyy nip me, nip me...anything else probably should be pushed back.

So NO they are not the same and it has nothing to do with old school and new school it's more of some nail techs were not taught how to correctly identify, but even then if you think about it logically it don't make sense for the cuticle to be, the cuticle and the eponychium cause then...what is the eponychium???…..but we must always remember...we  SHOULD use the terms correctly AND IF WE don't (just out of habit) use the correct term; at least know what is right, because terms are loosely used and it can take some time to break habits, so know the difference.

So I guess the question is now: do clients have dry eponychium or dry cuticles (lol)? I would say you have dry skin (eponychium) because it is living tissue just a little dry or maybe a lot. It makes me think that cuticle oil should be called eponychium oil. These are my thoughts on cuticle and eponychium. They are two different tissues and NOT the same. Always remember to educate yourself and help one another.

TIP: To help with dry eponychium your client can use a basic chapstick. Apply like you would cuticle oil whenever they wash hands or even think about it.

NOW THAT IS KLUCH NEWS WITH INFORMATION FOR YOU TO GRAB…
